How to Turn off Auto-Style in MS Word 2003
Starting from Office 2003, Microsoft starts to add styles as you change format to your text. This can be very annoying if the number of "styles" grow quickly in the list.
According to Microsoft, they are not official "styles," instead, they are "formatting." Hence, you can choose to show a different view and turn off these "formatting."
The dropdown box at the bottom of "Styles and Formatting" let you change the view.
By choosing "Custom..." option in the same list, you can even customize to see certain styles if you want. In this way, you do not officially turn off the "Auto-Style" Microsoft offers, instead, you choose not to see it :−)
